Marthinus Stephanus Koch, father of well-known artist Robert Koch, was born in 1940 in Pretoria.  Martin is a self-taught artist, starting at the young age of ten.  Even though Martin has become well known for his landscapes, wildlife and beautiful portrayal of animals in their natural habitat, he also commenced a portrait of the late Professor Chris Barnard in 1967.  Martin works mainly in oil and watercolour and has become an expert in the application of these mediums in his lively paintings.
