Willem Hermanus Coetzer was born in 1900 in Cape Town, South Africa.  Discovering his talent and love for art at a young age, Coetzer struggled to get the necessary art education he so desperately longed for.  After finally educating himself in the art he loved, Coetzer even went on to design the Great Trek commemorative Postage Stamps.  Coming into closer contact with his Afrikaans heritage, despite his English education, Coetzer became well-known for his art relating to historical subjects of South Africa.  W H Coetzer passed away in 1983 but will always be remembered and celebrated as one of South Africa’s most influential artists.
